QUEST ENCLAVETM

Ice Cream! Chèvre Cheese! ..... And More!

Quest EnclaveTM is located in the Northern California foothills of the Sierra Mountain Range about an hour North East of Sacramento. Quest EnclaveTM specializes in the medium size dairy goat Miniature LaManchas, or Mini Manchas. Mini Manchas are a cross of the LaMancha dairy goat with the Nigerian Dwarf dairy goat that produces an excellent creamy milk.

Mini Manchas are small, easy keepers, about two to two and a half feet tall at the shoulder when full grown. We strive to have excellent temperaments and complement that with imprinting our kids from the moment they are born, along with ease of keep and ease of milking their first freshening.

Imprinting was developed by the Veterinarian Dr. Murphy, and creates a bond between living things. Imprinting enables the goat to consider that you are one of the herd, and basically you can think of them like a vegetarian dog companion. An imprinted kid in our experience is vastly superior to a bottle fed kid that is pushy and needy, who always demands attention. A dam raised kid is always with the mother, disciplined by the mother who meets all their needs, making for a calm and quiet, yet tame, easily handled Mini Mancha that will come up to you when you visit the herd, because they see you as one of them.

Benefits to owing a Mini Mancha are great and many. They are excellent pets if imprinted at birth and raised properly. They provide organic fertilizer for your plants and garden if you feed your Mini Manchas organic feed, browse, and natural minerals. They are very good for brush clearing, and all this is highlighted by the fact that they produce excellent nutritious milk that may be used to make butter, cheese, and more. If you want, you may milk them once a day. Yes, you will get slightly less milk, however I have found that it is much easier on the doe and also saves you precious time in your day :D

We can easily transport our Mini Manchas in crates in our car, as they are the perfect size. They are great brush keepers for fire prone areas, and if you don't have pasture, they eat much less than standard breed dairy goats, some say around half as much. Since they have the Nigerian Dwarf influence, it is possible to rotate milk production for a year around supply between two goats. The LaMancha genes contribute a decent quantity of milk and the Nigerian Dwarf contributes hardiness, a medium size, and great taste and creaminess for the perfect milk!

We believe that small changes by individuals, added together... can make a huge difference. So we only use organic products, never use pesticides on our land, and only plant certified organic seeds, as we know everything goes downwind and downstream and has an unforeseen impact.
